Your first-trip packing list
Everything for a two-night trip, grouped so nothing gets left behind.
Pack by system, not by person. Each tub or bag does one job, and you'll always know where things are.
Shelter
- Tent, poles, pegs and mallet
- Footprint or tarp
- Spare guy rope
Sleep
- Mat or mattress for each person
- Sleeping bag rated a few degrees below the forecast low
- Pillow and a warm beanie
Kitchen
- Stove, gas bottle and lighter
- Pot, pan, kettle and utensils
- Esky or fridge, plus a wash-up tub and biodegradable detergent
Light and power
- A lantern for camp and a head torch per person
- Power bank or power station and cables
Safety
- First-aid kit, sunscreen and insect repellent
- Enough drinking water for the whole trip, even if the campsite lists water
- Check the fire danger rating and any total fire ban before you leave
Tip: write the list inside each tub's lid. Next trip, you'll pack in ten minutes.
