Build a camp kitchen tub that's always ready
One tub, packed once, so dinner on the first night takes minutes.
The fastest way to cook at camp is to never pack a kitchen again. Build one tub that lives in the shed between trips.
What goes in
- Nesting cookware: pot, pan and kettle
- A knife with a cover, chopping board, tongs, spatula and wooden spoon
- Plates, bowls, cups and cutlery for everyone, plus two spares
- Lighter, matches in a zip bag, and a spare gas cartridge if your stove uses them
- Salt, pepper, oil and your favourite spice mix in small bottles
- Tea towels, sponge, biodegradable detergent and a collapsible wash basin
- Rubbish bags and zip-lock bags
Safety rules
Cook in the open. Never use a gas stove inside a tent, annexe or enclosed space: carbon monoxide builds up without warning. Keep the stove on a stable surface away from children's play areas.
After the trip
Wash everything, restock what ran out, and put the tub straight back on the shelf. Next time you just grab it.
